I recently attended a conference for my work and the speaker talked to us about our personal vision statements. Most of us have helped create vision statements for our places of employment or maybe for a nonprofit, but probably never for ourselves! As the facilitator led us through the process, we were to list those things that mattered most to us and then we were to prioritize them. Here is how mine ended up:
- Deep love for family and friends
- Giving and service
- Meaningful work
This translated into my personal vision statement: To outwardly model the faith, hope and love in my life so that others may see and be brought to Christ. In my mind, that is the best legacy anyone can have: to leave nothing on the table when it comes to sharing faith.
Here’s the interesting thing: I was the only person in the room who did not put wealth or career first. Granted, it was only a small group – about 20 or so people – but I still found it disappointing. They wanted to leave legacies of wealth and power behind.
What about you? What would your personal vision statement say and how do you take that personal vision statement and live it out every day? Visit us over on Facebook and tell us about it.
